Bruce Cambell overseeing Evil Dead Remake

Groovy!  Or is it!?  The people at the Daily Blam! report that Bruce Cambell or Ash as he is known from the Evil Dead trilogy as officially said the script is written and that it is ‘awesome’.

All those warm feelings of my childhood idol are slowly coming back to me *cries a tear of happiness*.

He does go on to say however that he will be one of the producers and will possibly play a milkman.  This indicates that the new movie will likely not involve an older Bruce Cambell reprising a role for an older Ash in a remake of the older film; which would be amazing, wouldn’t it!?

Sam Raimi the original director will likely distribute it through his Ghost House pictures label but don’t expect him to reprise the director’s chair.

Evil Dead for you young un’s or for those less inclined to cult is a film about a guy who goes up into a cabin into the woods with his girlfriend.  The guy finds a recording of an old man reciting from a book called the Necronomicon, thinking it’s a great idea to shit his girlfriend up he keeps it playing, only to unleash all hell under the sun.  Possessed mouse heads, possessed hands, trees what rape, well, mainly possession.

The first film was controversial for the tree rape scene which on reflection director Sam Raimi regretted.  The sequels were a mix of slap stick comedy mixed with horror so far fetched it was hilarious.  It was also delivered so fantastically by Bruce Cambell he still has B-List superstat status twenty years have it was made.
The film may not see the light of day however as Cambell also says:

“In all honesty, we would all love to make another Evil Dead movie. When that will happen?" he said, "Who can say – we’re all working on other jobs right now."

"We’re not trying to dodge anybody’s questions, there just isn’t that much to talk about. The remake’s gonna kick ass – you have my word,"

Do we want another remake without Cambell as our leading man?  And if so who would be the best replacement?
