With Darren Aranofky off the cards after the success the Wolverine seemed to be without his pack. Alas the lone wolf has found a director and that director is the man who brought us the sci-fi epic Moon- Duncan Jones. Jones is now in talks with Fox about a deal to make the film after several successes with independent films.
The Wolverine franchise isn’t a sturdy one though, and it never has been. Hugh Jackman practically created the first Wolverine film through a labour of love. The amount of financial difficulties the original faced it’s surprising they’ve even bothered with a sequel*.
On top of the trouble of the original they’ve also had countless problems with the sequel. First Aronofsky leaves, then the horrific tsunami and nuclear warnings in Japan where it was suppose to be shot. It feels very much like this furry beast is indeed cursed.
However, according to Empire if luck prevails and the deal with Jones and Fox goes through they’re might be a chance for more claw scratching to prevail yet.
As mentioned the sequel was originally going to be set in Japan. Whether they still plan on basing it in Japan and shooting it elsewhere for story purposes remains unclear.
*Movie Cake would like to suggest the sequel to be called Wolverine Too in tribute to the Teen Wolf films.
