Unlike most common trends of rehashing Disney films and then making them dark i.e. last years Alice in Wonderland, the recent portrayals of Peter Pan, or mostly anything Disney remake related you will find someone has tried to make it dark.
Dark however, isn’t the word you would use for the new Emily Browning fronted Sleeping Beauty movie. It’s not a horror film but it’s definitely for adults. If the film is anything by the tone of the trailer you can expect it to be suspenseful, and to play out like a thriller would. Either that or it’ll go Suckerpunch* and transport her to some mystical world full of dragons and loose all coherent plot.
The trailer is delicate, eerie and feels miles apart from anyone else who has toyed with similar source material. My mind isn’t made up as of yet if it’ll be a film what shall reshape the remakes but it’s definitely got Movie Cake kudos for being daring and provocative.
*Emily Browning’s last film- wasn’t very good.
