On Stranger Tides Feature Trailer ARRives

Bizarre is it not? This franchise was built on a boat ride, one what we could have gone on as kids. The new Pirates of the Caribbean trailer integrates clips from the old ride with scenes from the films. It really shows the drastic changes that these films have undergone.

The ride at Disney land was in fact the last ride Walt Disney himself would help design before his death.  A dark ride which would transport passengers through the belly of a cave with decaying pirates lurking over them.

This park ride has developed into several blockbusters with Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Keira Knightley, a fountain of youth, under water pirate zombies, and a drunken night with a bottle of rum.  In other words: a lot of fun.

However, it also takes into consideration how little plot these films had to start with. Consider for example the horror (the horror!) that was pirates 2 and 3.  The incoherent panicked story fell off the rails and gave us garbage where there was once gold*.

This is a potential sign that Disney has accepted their roots with the films and is ready to admit that the key to the Pirates franchise isn't plot at all. It's just action, fantasy and Johnny Depp.

Check out the trailer below!

*Gold. Pirates gold! Get it?!

So what do we think? Excited for the new film?  Is it a wanted reinvigoration or should we throw this one in to Davy Jones Locker?
